Pretty soon Marriott Hotels will need to update its brochures and fact sheets. In October of this year, Marriott is expected to close on its $210 million purchase of Gaylord Entertainment Co.’s brand name and management of the facilities.
The 35 year agreement includes Marriott assuming management of the properties and Gaylord continuing to own its four hotels in Dallas, Nashville, Orlando and National Harbor Maryland.
My guess is that Marriott made this move to grow their group and meeting space as they become the “go to” hotel in the sporting world. Seriously.
Marriott has arrangements to be the official hotel sponsor for the US. Soccer Federation, USA Swimming, National Football League, USA Hockey, USA Football, US Lacrosse, and New World Sports. (They might be more, but this is all I could gather within a short time period given that my teenager and I are in the middle of a trip.)
While you might think Gaylord Hotel focuses on a different customer base, I think Marriott wants to expand their family of brands and make it convenient for every athlete and coach to get a comfy nights sleep and have on site meetings.
Now, how many points will a guest earn for a night stay at a Gaylord Hotel?
