Whenever we go on trip, either one or more days, I always pack a snack bag for the kids. For a recent trip to Minnesota, I put together homemade trail mix, non-refrigerated milk, and an apple. Recently Subway had reusable bags with their kid’s meal that are great to reuse as they are washable and no money lost if they get misplaced.
Caution: High probability trail mix recipe will result in a kids leaving a mess in your car. This is okay, a driving trip will result in a messy car no matter what you pack.
This trail mix recipe was a mix of items from my cupboard:
-
4 cups Cinnamon Life Cereal
-
4 cups Miniature Pretzels
-
1 cup Bunny Crackers
-
2 cups Raisins
-
1 cup Peanuts and Mixed Nuts
-
1/2 cup Miniature Chocolate Covered Candies (m&m’s)
Put everything in a big bowl then mix with a spoon. Fill each person a baggie full of trail mix. Make sure each person has their own bag to reduce conversations over who ate all the M&M’s. Enjoy!

Sounds like a fantastic Idea! My kids love M&M candies and would probably just eat them and that’s it!
Yup, that’s Ally Cat does too. She is slowly learning that there is no more Trail Mix until she eats the other stuff.
